09
How does early childhood learning differ from day care?

Day care is typically offered to children ranging from <2-5 years old, with a range of independence, emotional, and expressive skills. Day care is great for providing your child a safe place to play and be around other children. Day care providers (with some exceptions) must pass certain state requirements, such as criminal background checks.

Preschools are designed to provide a transitional step to Kindergarten and teachers must be credentialed. Preschool children are expected to have a certain level of independence, such as being potty trained, so teachers and students can focus more on development. At ilo, we will provide that transitional step through structured social, emotional, academic development.

However, if there is a delayed start, beforecare/early drop-off will be canceled. Similarly if DCSD issues an early closure, afterschool care will be canceled. What distinguishes ilo from other preschools?

There are many great schools throughout the area all with different areas of focus. At ilo, we focus on the whole child development - social, emotional, academic, and physical. Whenever possible, we try to incorporate something natural into the lessons and activities. We emphasize learning through play and group interactions. Additionally, teachers and children alike conduct ourselves utilizing Conscious Discipline.
12
Does ilo participate in the state's universal pre-K (UPK) program?

The UPK program provides up to 15 hours per week of free, high-quality preschool to all children in their year before kindergarten. Families with a combination of qualifying factors can access additional hours of UPK support.

As of the 2024-2025 school year, ilo is an advocate and proud member of the Colorado Universal Preschool Program. See the Enrollment page for additional information and links to official UPK resources.
13
Can I modify my child's attendance schedule mid-year?

At ilo, we provide three flexible scheduling options to help meet your family's needs. These include all week, three-day (M-W-F), and two-day (Tu-Thu) options. We are happy to have your child attend additional days, based on availability.

While we offer flexibility in the number of days per week, our program is designed around a full-day schedule, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The full day allows us to support your child’s development across academic, social, and emotional domains with intention and consistency. Mid-day pickups can be disruptive to both classroom flow and peer engagement, so we are not able to offer a formal half-day program. If a family chooses to regularly pick up early, we still must reserve a full-day space for the child, and full tuition will apply.
14
What does a typical day look like at ilo?
In the morning, the children rotate through three focus areas: literacy, fine motor skills, and mathematics & STEM activities. They also have a recess and time for a snack.

In the afternoon, there is outdoor play, lunch, and "choice" play where group interactions are encouraged to develop social skills. This time is a meaningful part of the day, designed to build collaboration, emotional intelligence, and peer relationships. Our full-day structure is intentional, and each portion of the day builds on the other to support your child's growth in a balanced and holistic way.
15
Does your school offer before and aftercare services?
Yes! ilo offers early drop-off (8:00 am - 8:45 am) and afterschool care (2:10 pm - 3:00 pm). Unlike many preschools that require families to commit to extended care for the entire school year, we offer flexible scheduling—you can use these services on an as-needed basis with just 24-hour notice so we can plan accordingly.

We intentionally keep our extended care hours reasonable, as we believe young children thrive with shorter, more manageable days rather than the extremely long hours offered at other centers. Our approach allows families the flexibility they need while prioritizing what's best for little learners. Please note that extended care hours are separate from Colorado's Universal Pre-K program and involve additional fees.
16
My child has a medical condition. Can medicines be administerd at school?
Yes but on a case-by-case basis, in close collaboration with the family and under the explicit direction of our licensed nurse practitioner.
